Lucy Group has supported the Earth Trust programme to enable children to experience the great outdoors and engage with nature.

Today’s schoolchildren, known as ‘Generation Alpha,’ hold the key to our planet’s future. By connecting them with the natural world, Earth Trust’s programme instils a sense of care and responsibility that translates into positive action.

Unfortunately, children from disadvantaged areas in Oxfordshire have limited access to environmental education, a problem worsened by the pandemic. Earth Trust aims to remove barriers to access by providing environmental education experiences to youngsters from all social backgrounds.

Pupils experience three environmental education visits over a three-year period. The goal is to inspire and embed a deeper understanding of the benefits of nature and how to nurture it. Each cohort receives a subsidised visit to Earth Trust, where the team collaborates with teachers to plan the curriculum and maximise learning, both during the visit and in the classroom afterward.

Activities include den building, forest exploration, and hikes, which develop hands-on skills, curiosity, and a sense of achievement.
